On why estimates fail
Start with Hofstadter's Law and the planning fallacy literature. Neither will make your estimates accurate, but both will change how you present them — from a promise to a distribution, which is what they always were.
On decisions
Most delivery problems are decision problems wearing a schedule costume. The work that helps here is about how groups decide under uncertainty, how to disagree productively, and how to make a call reversible so it can be made faster.
On why teams slow down
Communication overhead grows faster than headcount. Anything on team topologies, coordination cost, or the economics of small teams explains more about your velocity chart than the chart does.
